About this Project

Huddersfield University's multi-story atrium needed to control noise and reverberation across several open floors of glazed, hard-surfaced circulation space, without losing the architectural impact of the space itself. AAPG supplied real wood veneer acoustical wall panels in a European Cherry veneer, engineered as micro-perforated panels over an acoustical MDF backer so the wood surface itself does the acoustic work.

The panels were mounted using AAPG's Façade wall panel system, held out from the structural wall with a 35mm acoustic air gap behind each panel. That void pushes the assembly's Noise Reduction Coefficient (NRC) above 0.95, performance in line with purpose-built acoustic tile, while presenting a single, continuous run of warm wood grain up the full height of the atrium instead of a visibly "treated" surface.

This project reflects AAPG's ability to deliver acoustic performance and architectural finish from the same panel, a combination well suited to the demanding, high-traffic circulation spaces found in higher-education and institutional buildings.
